“Climbing The Ladder Toward Success”
Educators know all too well that they alone cannot solve the social and economic problems in the U.S. that so severely limits the opportunities of African American males. Efforts are also being made to decrease the suspension and expulsion rates of African American males, to lower their representation in general tracks and special education programs and raise it in programs for the gifted and talented. USA responds to evidence that adolescence for all races are particularly in a precarious period; adolescent risk-taking behavior too often results in early fathering, drug use, dropping out of school, acts of violence, and incarceration. USA will help young men alternate behaviors, values, and activities, and offer youth new role models.
Based on the African proverb of each one teach one, the USA will enhance this principle through each one teaching and mentoring two. Through our unique “mentoring network,” middle school-aged young boys on up through young professional males will participate in a unique mentoring network, exclusive to the USA.
